Creating secure elections and explaining that they are secure is one of the best disinformation tools (Verified Voting for information) . Common Cause has a good explanation of the Freedom to Vote Act 2024. The bill sets fair redistricting standards and citizen funded elections, expands voter registration (e.g., automatic and same-day registration) and voting access (e.g., vote-by-mail and early voting). It also limits removing voters from voter rolls.

Several important organizations have emerged to inform low engagement voters and to combat disinformation by reaching them through the sources they use to get their news: social media! Courier Newsroom has local reporters in swing states that focus on community information and lifestyle topics and introduces politics through stories about the impact of governmental decisions on the lives of local people. Courier offers subscription newsletters but also posts on media like Facebook, TikTok and Instagram. You can help by forwarding their materials to friends, family and colleagues.

Combatting mis- and dis-information and centering voting rights for marginalized communities is central to The 19th's mission and its barrier-busting journalism. Even better: All of its journalism and fact-checking is free to read and free to republish, including its newsletters and podcast, The Amendment. The 19th also hosts live events all over the country aiming to get women and LGBTQ+ people more engaged in our democracy.
